Mountain Christmas at the Georgia Mtn. Fairgrounds

An activity that we look forward to every year is to drive around and look at Christmas lights. It’s always a bonus when we’re able to go to a tree lighting or an event that lights up the town. There is just something magical about seeing everything lit up and hearing Christmas music softly playing in the background. That’s why when we heard about the Mountain Christmas event that was taking place at the Georgia Fairgrounds, we knew we had to go.

We arrived right around 6 pm and found that there were plenty of parking. If you should have to park further away, they do offer free trolley rides from the parking lot to the front gate. Also offered for those that are unable to walk through the fairgrounds are six-passenger golf carts.

Walking through the front-gate you’ll be amazed at how well they’ve transformed the area into a magical holiday light show.Mountain Country Christmas

We enjoyed all the beautiful lights as we walked through the grounds. Christmas music was provided by local churches, and a lot of the churches had Christmas displays in areas where vendors at times set up during the Georgia Mountain Fair.

Looking to purchase hand-made Christmas gifts? You’ll find several local arts and craft vendors set up throughout the fairgrounds.  Mountain Christmas

For the kids

We had read that Santa would be making an appearance during the Mountain Christmas event and that was all the boys could think about. The hard part was actually finding Santa. We thought for sure he would be down at the area called “Santa’s Workshop”, but to our surprise there was no Santa in that area.Mountain Christmas

We did eventually find Santa after asking around, and the kids loved it! Be sure to bring your camera so you can snap a picture of them with Santa. The kids will also enjoy the hot chocolate and s’mores that can be found at the event. I almost forgot to mention that there was also a petty zoo set up that offers camel rides and pony rides.

While we did wish there was more Christmas lights and activities, we still had a fun evening. The kids enjoyed looking at all the light displays and listening to Christmas music as we walked through. Be sure to  give yourself around 1-2 hrs for this event so you can really take in all there is to see.
